Linking the provided information to objective information about alternative ways of treatment that are offered on the website, AvA wants to create an informative website where farmers, vets and suppliers of alternatives can buy and sell products. The main goal of offering these products and proving information about animal diseases, antibiotics and antibiotic alternatives is to give Dutch farmers a hand with reducing the use of antibiotics. Together with the Dutch vets and suppliers of alternative ways of treatment we can reduce antibiotic use in the Dutch animal husbandry.

Happy animals, happy farmers
The Dutch government and the EU are making new regulations related to the use of antibiotics in the animal husbandry sector. Between 2009 and 2013 the antibiotic use in the Netherlands decreased with 50%. In 2015 the Dutch government wants to decrease the use of antibiotics with 70% in comparison to 2009. Since January 2013 veterinarians are obligated to do a bacterial test before applying 3th and 4th generation antibiotics. Farmers are not allowed to use the same amount of antibiotics as before 2009.
By reducing the use of antibiotics the amount of diseased animals and the amount of diseases is not going down. Therefore, farmers need an alternative to antibiotics. Finding these alternatives to antibiotics is not easy as we discovered. AvA (Alternatieven voor Antibiotica) is a company who is willing to help farmers with finding the right kind of alternative for antibiotics. This is where we want to open a new market opportunity for farmers and the alternative industry.
Who?
The
concept of AvA started with the idea to reduce antibiotic use in the Netherlands. With dashing persuasion from the five Applied Animal Science students setting up the business, a website providing information about diseases, antibiotics and alternative treatment raised from the ground like a broiler gaining weight.
